The Solar Occultation For Ice Experiment (SOFIE) instrument uses solar occultation to measure cloud particles, temperature and atmospheric gases involved in forming the noctilucent clouds studied by the Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM) spacecraft.
